It is a well-known fact among serious hunters in this region that this tract is recognized as one of the most sought-after whitetail habitats in the area. It is bordered on the west by a 1740-acre tract owned by Expert Management, Inc., which was originally established as Atlas Powder Co. in 1912, of which 1157 acres act as “buffer” land that has never allowed hunting. The north half of the east boundary is adjacent to a large timbered tract, which is a portion of over 900 acres owned by the founder of Precious Moments. To round it out, most of the eastern boundary is bordered by a 415-acre timbered tract that is only lightly hunted. To say this is a protected wildlife haven is an understatement. The timber is an excellent mixture of hard and soft woods, allowing for abundant forage and bedding materials. There is an extensive 3.2-mile trail system in place, which allows for easy access north through the center of the tract as well as across the southern portion. As you cross the property, you start to understand how the five large draws and ridges funnel the big bucks onto well-established game trails during the rut. One of the many awesome spots is on the western edge of the property, where a big oak flat is located for mast crop forage. It has excellent undergrowth and gently slopes away towards Grove Creek on the adjacent western property. This area allows the deer to bed facing north with the predominant winds coming from the southwest. If they sense danger, they have multiple escape routes, making it an ideal place to raise fawns. I have spent an ample amount of time on the property, learning its ins and outs. I have never been disappointed on this tract and am always excited to come around the next corner or over the next ridge top. The anticipation of seeing multiple herds of deer and flocks of turkeys will truly never get old. Through proper deer management, good stewardship, and the fact that it is so protected from the outside world you and your family or buddy have the opportunity to harvest monster bucks throughout the years.
